Northerly winds fan Vic fires:NASA
Despite Melbourne having its hottest December day in 53 years, firefighters are cautiously expressing relief at avoiding the horror of a 100 km super fire.
Two houses had been lost, but a wind shift from the hot northerly winds to cooler southerly breezes was providing relief against 14 major outbreaks.
Despite relief the horror scenario of all the fires merging into one super fire had not eventuated, there are new predictions this fire is unlike any before and will continue to burn for months
