An email from a Victorian police officer has been cited in a lawsuit filed by a US company which complains of being swamped by millions of web surfers looking for the popular YouTube video-sharing site.
The company, Universal Tube & Rollform Equipment Corporation, has owned the utube.com domain since 1996 and is suing You Tube claiming it often gets venomous and bligerent email.
One of those emails cited in the lawsuit lodged last week at the US District Court is from Detective Senior Sergeant Simon Clemence from the sexual crimes unit of the Victoria Police.
In the October 25 email, Detective Clemence - under the belief that he is emailing YouTube - requests that a video clip showing a teenage girl allegedly being assaulted by a group of boys be removed from the site.
He also asks for any information about the people who upload the video on the site.
"You currently have a video titled C--- the Movie," Detective Clemence writes. "It may contain child porn as the people in are under the age. Please remove it from the site. Could you please also advise me if you are able, who uploaded it onto your site."
